Faith and Mulberry Trees

One summer a long, long time ago, Lowell and I lived near the campus of Freed-Hardeman University. This was our second summer being married and he and I both worked for the college as did a load of other students who lived year-round in Henderson. One of our fun ‘perks’ that summer was being allowed to share in the fruit of one gigantic mulberry tree on the campus. What we and others would do was to ‘borrow’ a paint tarp, put it under the mulberry tree and then we’d shake those branches while the ripe, succulent mulberries fell in abundance! The guys would even climb to some of the higher branches to get the goodies. That was some of the best berries we’ve ever enjoyed – jams, jellies, cobblers and pies – mmm mmm good!

Do you see how big this mulberry tree is? not some little brambly bush where you can pick blackberries, or raspberries, or blueberries … no, this is a TREE!

Well, here’s another couple of pictures:

a bunch of mustard seeds …

and just the one … tiny … seed

He replied, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree,

‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you.” … Jesus

Luke 17:6
