Leadership – Where Would We Be Without It?

I believe, we would be in a mess without Leadership. We see here in Honduras (like many other places in the world) that families are in dire distress because they lack godly leadership. We, along with others, are trying our best to help remedy that by working with the young adults and newly marrieds in the local church. Other small congregations in this area have couples diligently working on their marriages (1st of all getting legally married!) and then also, building a strong family structure. The proper leadership in the family, the church, in society all starts with knowing who is ruling one’s life. The crux of the matter is that we must allow Jesus to reign if we ever want to get life ‘right’.

Our family is sponsored by the Wilkesboro church of Christ in Wilkesboro, NC. The elders, William Watkins and Dale Isom, represent the leadership of that local congregation … we honor their guidance and respect their advice. This family of God is participating in a Bible reading this year – using The Daily Bible. The congregation at Archdale, where we used to live, did this activity together a few years back – brother Bill Ireland was great about holding us accountable and then giving recognition throughout. It was an excellent challenge and a beautiful learning experience.

Well, Dale let’s you know he is new at this blog-writing thing but he is an excellent Bible student and he has started a series of writings to go along with his reading at My Daily Bible Blog. His comments are well-written, thought provoking and excellent for these days – they are relevant no matter where you live. After-all, this is God’s word and he knows us well. Here are a few of Dale’s most recent thoughts.

God has established leadership. HE is the ultimate leader and he provides us with leadership in all areas of our lives. We know Jesus is the head of the church. (Col 1:18) We know that the husband is the head of the wife. (Eph 5:23) We know that in the local church, elders have the leadership. (1 Tim 5:17) We know we are to submit to civil authority. (1 Peter 2:13,14) God established order through authority for our benefit. We are to respect those that have authority over us, on our jobs, in our communities, in our states and country, but most importantly in our homes and in our churches.

This begins with allowing Jesus to have the authority in our lives. If He sits on the throne in our hearts, living in submission to those authorities that God has established is much easier. If I have a rebellious nature, I should check who is ruling in my life. It is my choice, it is your choice. Choose today who you will follow.”

If you have not ever read through the entire Bible, it is a wonderful project anytime but I do love the management of the chronological Daily Bible. You don’t have to do this in a group – although it is fun and encouraging. Your year doesn’t have to begin on January 1st either, it could begin now. You don’t have to use The Daily Bible – you can use your favorite … but I really, really think it is one of the most valuable accomplishments you could attain … read through the entire Bible.

A love story written by the Father’s hand. How holy and remarkable!

You can order your own copy here and by ordering through our store, you will help support our work here in Honduras. May you be covered in blessings as you embark on the most remarkable journey of your life – reading through the Word.
