My Family – Love ’em

Most of you know, I was on the road again. This time I headed out to be with daughter, Janna, and her family as we eagerly awaited the arrival of our grandbaby #2 – hooray!! The days just seem to rush by and because we are scattered hither and yon across the country, miles and miles of travel happen as we stay connected with our dear ones.  On the way out to Barling I got to stop in Murphreesboro, and stay overnight with Jess and Benjamin and then while out there, Jared returned from his 6 months Ukraine andafter my 2 weeks+ of Janna time,  he joined me on my return home and enjoyed another overnite with Jess … good times all around! My odometer lets me know I’ve put on close to 2,000 miles the last month or so. Whew! Let’s not dwell there though – this is about family – and the celebration of growth!

It’s such an incredible time when your own offspring are bringing theirs into this world. Where did the time fly? It seems like only yesterday that Janna was our only one. Our first. In that moment our world changed and we became so much more. This small, magnificent being that we created together impacted us in ways that forever stamped our hearts and we realized that life and love was so much more than we could ever begin to comprehend, much less appreciate. What an honor and a privilege to be given the gift of this child. Beautiful, delightful, scary, so undeniably FUN!! This wonderful gift of our first child. She was brilliant! She was a genius! She was perfectly OURS! and no one could ever be as GRAND as our Janna. But whoa, then the anticipation of another??

And yes, before we knew it was time for our second wonderful gift! SHE was equally as brilliant. Jessica was definitely a genius as well! Beautiful, delightful, full of impishness, her own distinct person … and then comes our unbelievable third. You know what they say, third time is the CHARM! and HE was IT! A charmer from day one! So handsome, inquisitive and delightful – such an easy baby that had Jared been the first you’d surely want to have ten more!!

Oh, The Father is good – so very good!!

Wow, such wonderful and awesome times we experienced with our own first three little ones. We were young, brave and probably ignorant of the ‘what could go wrongs’ as the years flew by and we literally moved our little family around the world – hemisphere to hemisphere, below the equator, above it, on it. They were the bestest kids in the whole wide world!! Adjusting to their new homes, living in curiosity and joy.

Then, nine years after our Jared … what in the world?? OOPS!! We done did it again and here comes number four??!! Well, God is the Master of Surprise. We often tell that people that God just wasn’t going to listen to our Jessi anymore as she prayed and wished her way through her days, weeks and months even years of persistence in longing for a second baby brother … and God and Jessi got their way. Our Jacob joined the White bunch.

How did we ever begin to suppose that we were COMPLETE  without HIM?? Brilliant, Cute, Smart, and loads of FUN!! We continued with our adventuresome life now with four kiddos, and wouldn’t you know it? This new little guy, he fit right in to African life – a little too well at times!

As the cliche goes: “Time flies” far too fast and the little kids become big kids and then even your littlest is a big kid,too … in spite of definitely being wonderful … ouch, this can hurt sometimes! I miss my babies!

Before we knew it again we were growing! It was time to welcome ‘son’  by marriage to Janna – our own Michael – we had been blessed once more. And through him and our #1 the gift of the second generation began with their #1 – our precious, sweet Emily Lynn!!  and …  we didn’t know when, or how but it did come to pass and another ‘son’ by marriage to Jess!  We recently welcomed our very own Benjamin and we know, once more, that the Father is indeed very good to us. It’s not over yet. This miracle of a growing family is by far one of life’s greatest joys.

Children are our heritage and the grandchildren – well, this is definitely a MAGNIFICENT time! When I reflect on the kids, I am so excited I am basically grinning all the time! The Father – He is good and truly the giver of all good gifts.

Oh, yes, now there is 2 grand baby girls. We are loving our Madelyn Elizabeth and all I can say is: “Look out Maddie – life with the White bunch and Herndon crowd – well, it’s going to be a fabulous, fun, and love-filled ride!!”

An Important Note: Jacob was baptized into the Lord Jesus Christ on July 2, 2009 and that means our spiritual family grew as well. Praise the Father, all our physical offspring are in the eternal family!! I need to tell you, that a good family, a happy family, a family with wholesome attitudes that respects its elders, and its government is a result of accepting Responsibility. It takes hard work and a lot of trust on the part of a diligent Dad and Mom, with all the team working together to stay on the upward path. Of course, every single family has definite problems, trauma and even drama but in the face of whatever negative circumstance, you can decide to learn what you can from mistakes and make up your mind on yours being a very good family. Concentrate on laughing a lot, and on thankfulness, faithfulness, giving forgiveness,  and treating each other with respect. Also, and I guess most importantly, prayer and the absolute knowledge of and hope in God and His Son and the belief in His Word – that, too, accounts for major success in family life. No doubt about it … you can’t build a good family without God in the middle of things.

After all He is the Master Architect and no plan works like His Plan.

Psalm 127: 3 3 Sons are a heritage from the LORD,
children a reward from him.
4 Like arrows in the hands of a warrior
are sons born in one’s youth.

Proverbs 8: 32 “ Now therefore, listen to me, my children,
For blessed are those who keep my ways.
33 Hear instruction and be wise,
And do not disdain it.

Proverbs 17: 6 Children’s children are the crown of old men,
And the glory of children is their father.

Proverbs 20: 6 Most men will proclaim each his own goodness,
But who can find a faithful man?
7 The righteous man walks in his integrity;
His children are blessed after him.

Ephesians 6: 4 And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.

Colossians 3: 20 Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord.
21 Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.
